Id like to Welcome Robin Waldrop to Page Flipperz today. We are celebrating the release Of Robin's second book in her series. Shadow of the blood moon. The book cover and blurb and interview are as follows.
hadow of the Blood Moon
Genevieve Labreck is back with a score to settle. Her mom has been kidnapped by Zane, hybrid and all-around monster. Rumors fly that Gen’s mom is holed away in Prague, a city recognized by humans for its serene beauty and intense culture, but Gen and Will know something humans don’t. Prague is haunted by dark, evil forces.
Can Gen and Will save her mom, or will they be too late?
Some will live, others will fall. At what price do you walk away from those you love?
Welcome Robin ...
Tell me a little about yourself, where do you live, cats, dogs.
I am a mother of four, grandmother of five. I’ve been married to the greatest man EVER for twenty-two years. We live in central Alabama in a rural area and cater to several cats, dogs, a parrot, and an Oscar fish named Frog. My husband and I own a small painting company, which I worked very hard at until about two months ago when he told me it was time for me to stay home and make writing my full time career.
What inspired you to write this series ?
I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but the original idea came to me in a dream, or actually a nightmare. I woke up about one o’clock in the morning and shot out of bed. Of course, I laughed when I realized I had been dreaming, but it seemed so real I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
With pen and paper in hand I sat up the rest of the night fleshing out the story and early the next morning Ties To The Blood Moon was born.
· <!-->How many have you currently written and have released ..
Two so far. I’ve just released the second book in the series, and hope to have the third released by November 1st.
Do you do your own covers?
No. I could never make anything as beautiful as theses covers. Claudia McKinney of phatpuppyart.com did both covers and I hope will do the third as well. Her work might cost a little more than others, but the end result is definitely worth it.
What are the most important elements of good writing ? According to you what tools must you have ?
First of all, you have to love to read. I believe every great author loves to read. You also need a strong narrative voice, good deep characterization, and relevant, subtle scenery description. But, the most important element is CHARACTERS. Even the best plot, full of twists and turns, action, tension, surprise, and conflict, falls flat unless the characters are fully developed where we (as readers) can like or dislike, root for, or against, learn from, grow with, fall in love with or hate with a passion, live vicariously through, or most importantly BELIEVE.
· Have any books or authors influenced what you write ?
I don’t think so. Before I started this series I NEVER read YA. This was a project I set out to do because that’s what the readers were into at the time. Now, I have fallen in love with the genre and don’t think I’ll ever write anything else.
·What is your writing process do you follow a routine ?
Somewhat. I don’t have a set routine per se, because my youngest daughter and granddaughter are living at home and I babysit for her. And after school and on the weekends my youngest grandson is here, so I have to work my schedule around them.
· Did you or have you learned anything writing your books ?
Absolutely! I knew nothing about writing before I began this wonderful journey. I just sat down at the computer one Sunday after church and started typing out a story.
· What do you find the hardest part about writing, do you ever suffer writers block ?
The hardest part for me is usually the beginning. However, once I get started, it takes off on its own. I let my characters lead the story. I had writers block once, which lasted almost two months. It was so bad, i actually thought maybe I wasn’t a writer after all. But then, it passed and I finished the second book in the series.
· Any advice to future writers ?
Never give up. All too often a new writer will get discouraged and hang up the author’s cap if they don’t jump right into success after publishing one book. Like all good things, becoming a successful author takes a lot of hard work and dedication. Regardless of what anyone tells you, if you just hang in there, success will come. Quitters never win, and winners never quit.
·How long have you been writing for, and have you always written ?
I’ve only been writing professionally for about two years. I started writing when I was just four years old. And when I wasn’t writing stories, I was telling stories. In college, I wrote some short stories, but never thought about writing as a career.
>If you could have dinner with anyone – dead or alive who would it be and why ?
My mom. I lost her in 2008 from stroke complications. She was my best friend and I miss her terribly. Thinking about her now brings tears to my eyes. She knew I loved to write, but she never got to see my work. My mom taught me that I could be whatever I wanted with hard work and determination. What hurts the most is I never got to say goodbye.
