Author Interview - John Smith - Delayed Flight & Giveaway !

Id Like to Welcome John Smith to Page Flipperz today where we get a little insight into his life as an author and some questions Im sure you all didnt know !!.

I write under two name John J. Smith and pen name Jonathan Black. Why do I do this? I've been told when a reader sees my work they have an expectation, hence the two names. I have won several awards under each name.
I've been called a prolific Fiction writer. I enjoy writing romance and mainstream as John and paranormal and paranormal romance as Jonathan.
Several of my novels have been converted or rewritten into screenplays; for which I've also have won several awards.
I reside in Plano, a suburb of Dallas, Texas.

This biography was provided by the author or their representative. (( taken from Amazon author page )
Where do you live -

I live in Plano Texas, which is a suburb of Dallas. I have two Shih Tzu dogs (Charley and Benny) and one Persian cat (Woody). Single, no children. I work an incredible amount of hours, which is very hard to maintain a relationship. Hopefully one day I’ll meet someone who is understanding that with today’s economy we often have to make choices and sacrifices we’re not happy with, but if I want to put kibbles in the bowl :)
How long have you been writing and what inspired you to write Delayed flight !

I’ve been writing for quite some time but just became serious about it over the last five years. Writing has always been a passion for me and I write as often as possible. I’ve had friends and family say that I should try to publish, which was an influence in being published. It is something that is so dear to me I hesitate to turn it into a business. I cannot imagine not writing.
I was in an airport during a snow storm and I watched a couple talking, obviously they had not seen each other in quite some time and it looked as if he wanted to pick up where they left off but I don’t believe she did, she looked angry. As I eavesdropped on the conversation (I know, not good, but sometimes the best material is right in front of you) I could tell she was upset and there was no way that relationship would pick up. I then felt sorry for both of them and thought, I wonder what would happen if they were thrown together into a situation where they had to see each other, what would be the outcome? Would he continue to pursue her? Would she change her mind? Could they even pick up from where they left off or would it be better to start anew. What would happen if there was a secret that she didn’t want him to know? Since I love reading and have a passion for writing, and really enjoy love stories, I knew I had to write this.

Do you have a muze someone who inspires you to write ?

I used to, my grandmother; she was one of the one who pushed for me to publish. She’s since moved on.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Writing. Seriously. I work so many hours with my day job that any free moment is spent dreaming and writing.

What are you currenlty working on ?

Actually I’m finishing the edits for a mainstream novel, Anopheles, more of an outside force that brings two people closer together. I’m also working on the idea and outline on a new novel, Camille. This will be a love story. Inspired by a friend of mine who is an author and after 83 years (yes, old enough to be my mother, plus a couple years) she decided to tell me one day about her past and well, I see it as a wonderful love story. She finally gave me permission to use a portion of her past and along with a little embellishment I think Camille will be a wonderful love story. I hope to have that done before year end of 2012.

Your future plans with writing what would you like to achieve ?

I would love to write full time and hope to do so in the future.

How many books have your written .. And what genres do you enjoy writing.

2 Novels (Delayed Flight and Finding Katie, love stories) and 1 Novella (Deadly Affairs, crime mystery/love story, which will be released this month) under John J. Smith.
1 Short story collection (Aberrant Endings, paranormal) and 1 novel (A Wrongful Wish, paranormal romance, which will also be released this month) under Jonathan Black (my friends laugh and say that’s the dark side of John – I love writing love stories but occasionally I like to move into the paranormal for fun).

Some fun questions.

Tea- coffee - poison of choice?
Coffee! Definitely coffee. Strong, a half of tsp of sugar and a splash of half and half. Mmmmmm.

Fav writing spot.
 1) My home office, and 2) on the sofa with the boys. Benny wants to walk on the keyboard from time to time but mostly I’ll have one on each side and Woody on the back of the sofa. Nice.

Favourtie Movie ?
 As Good as it Gets
Fav  book?
Nicholas Sparks, The Wedding. I absolutely loved that book and have actually read it several times. I love the fact that a man would admit his mistakes and then do the right thing.

Your ideal Holiday destinaton.
My sisters. She lives out in the country, and although I’m really a city boy, it’s great to go out there and just enjoy the peacefulness. This past week was great. Fav flavour of ice cream Uh, very hard question. I have a massive sweet tooth and ice cream is my favorite dessert. I guess Butter Pecan would be at the top of the list, but mostly anything with chocolate.

What makes you laugh ?
I have a weird (but kind) sense of humor, so a lot of things make me laugh. Love watching a good comedy or reading something funny. But more or less anything that is light, if that makes sense.

What is your pet hate !
Rudeness. It’s so easy to be courteous and no effort to be kind. I get exasperated when I meet or see someone who is blatantly rude.

Your fav author
I’d have to say Nicholas Sparks. I’ve read all of his work and have either enjoyed or really liked it. I read a lot and have several favorites but he is one who I will buy without reading the blurb.
How do you determine whether to buy a book or note - aka - the cover - blurb or word of mouth. Comp will run for one week and random org will choose a winner GOOD LUCK !!
For my review for Delayed FLight please check post from previous day !! I throughly enjoyed this story and recomend to all who love a contempory romance !!
