Author Interview & Giveaway Felicity Heaton ** Heart Of Darkness **

Id like to Welcome Felicity Heaton to Page FLipperz today !! I have asked Felicity a few questions and wanted some insight her author life, and as a bonus  Felicity has donated a Swagaliscious pack to one lucky winner !!

Biography:

Felicity Heaton is a romance author writing as both Felicity Heaton and F E Heaton. She is passionate about penning paranormal tales full of vampires, witches, werewolves, angels and shape-shifters, and has been interested in all things preternatural and fantastical since she was just a child. Her other passion is science-fiction and she likes nothing more than to immerse herself in a whole new universe and the amazing species therein. She used to while away days at school and college dreaming of vampires, werewolves and witches, or being lost in space, and used to while away evenings watching movies about them or reading gothic horror stories, science-fiction and romances.

Having tried her hand at various romance genres, it was only natural for her to turn her focus back to the paranormal, fantasy and science-fiction worlds she enjoys so much. She loves to write seductive, sexy and strong vampires, werewolves, witches, angels and alien species. The worlds she often dreams up for them are vicious, dark and dangerous, reflecting aspects of the heroines and heroes, but her characters also love deeply, laugh, cry and feel every emotion as keenly as anyone does. She makes no excuses for the darkness surrounding them, especially the paranormal creatures, and says that this is their world. She’s just honoured to write down their adventures.

INTERVIEW TIME .

When did you begin writing and what inspired you to become a writer? Have you always wanted to be a writer?
I suppose I first wrote something back in school for a project where we had to write the opening scene of a gothic horror story. I was shocked when my English teacher chose mine to read to the class as an excellent example, and also a little embarrassed. I wrote a few more chapters and had planned the story out before my fourteen-year-old-mind moved on to the next big thing. I didn’t write again until 2003 when I began writing fanfiction. In 2005 I wrote my first piece of original fiction and had it e-published. In 2006 I moved away from being e-published and switched to being indie. I’m not sure what inspired me to begin writing. I just remember reading fanfiction and thinking that I could do that, and I gave it a go. Now I’m a full-blown addict and I couldn’t picture my life without writing in it. It’s more than a passion to me. It’s an obsession.

How long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing original fiction for six years now. It seems like such a long time when I write it down like that. In the time I’ve been writing, I’ve written over forty stories, a lot of which are novels but some are short stories or novellas. Most of my stories are paranormal romances, but I did start out by writing contemporary and historical romances. I’ve also written fantasy romance stories and science fiction romances too. I think I’ve tried almost every romance genre out there now.

I’ve noticed your favourite genre to write is Paranormal romance why is this?

It is by far paranormal romance. I love the genre because I love everything dark and supernatural and have done since I was very young, in my single digit years. I used to read stories as a child that featured vampires and werewolf, witches and Frankenstein’s monster, and all sorts of things that went bump in the night. Those were my favourite books. When I grew older, I began to read stories by Edgar Allan Poe and H P Lovecraft, Bram Stoker and Mary Shelley. I also read a lot of fantasy novels and classic romances too. My love of the paranormal also extended to my daydreams about a vampire world of my creation, somewhere away from the boredom of school, and watching TV and films that featured vampires and werewolves. I absolutely love vampires, and I love them dark and beautiful, and deadly, just the way I write them.

Do you create all your covers and if so what inspires you when making them? I love them!!

Yes, I make all my own covers. People are often surprised by that and then I confess that I have a degree in graphic design and have always been artistic. Making covers is challenging at times but it’s one I relish. I love to keep outdoing myself and growing as a cover artist. I’m inspired by my books when I’m making my covers. I always seek to capture the story, the feel of the book, and convey it for readers to see. Covers are vitally important. They’re the book’s first impression and you want to make a good one as an author. I love being able to make my own covers because I know my book and my characters the best, so I can really tap into that when creating them and make something that speaks about the book to readers.

Do you have any other passion in life besides writing?

I love to learn Japanese, but at the moment life has been too busy, and I love drawing too. If I could, I’d probably spend weeks at a time just drawing. I would get terribly behind in my writing though and that wouldn’t be good. I’m also passionate about programming. I’m beginning to sound like a complete geek now, but give me a website to design and build, jQuery to write and PHP to code and I’m happy as a pig in muck.

You have a vast selection of series ATM, which was your favourite to write and why?

Vampires Realm is my baby. It was the first series I wrote and it began back in 2006 when I had the first glimmer of an idea for the Prophecy Trilogy. As I explored that idea, fleshing out the three books, I realised that this was more than a trilogy. It was a world, and one that I didn’t want to leave behind. I have so many books planned for the series that I’m sure it will keep burning brightly in my heart for another few years yet. The whole world in the Vampires Realm series is what keeps it in my heart, and the breed of vampires I’ve created are so deliciously dark and can be so terrifically demonic and lethal. I like to play in that dark world with my vampires. It’s always a pleasure to write stories for it. I love the Her Angel series too because it’s such a different world to explore, and also a series that I’m still working on in secret. I’ve been working on that one since 2008 and I hope to write the first novels for it next year.

If you had to choose which life to lead in the paranormal world what would you choose? (i.e. werewolf, vampire, etc )
Vampire, without a doubt. I would love to be a vampire. I know I’m sounding like a complete vampire freak now, but I don’t care. I really do love my fanged fiends.

When creating your worlds and characters what inspires you? In saying this, do you have a muse?
Everything inspires me. I suck everything around me in, books, movies, music, things people do or say, or just the strangest thing that sparks an idea in my mind. It doesn’t take much to get my imagination racing. I do have a muse. He’s been with me since my fanfiction years and he’s a complete angel. He keeps the characters in my head in line and takes no crap from them, and keeps me sane. He provides inspiration when I need it and is always there knocking on the door of my mind telling me to keep going and providing me with ideas. In short, I have an awesome muse.

What are you currently working on?

I’m just about to finish the second draft of Masquerade, the tenth story in the Vampires Realm series, and then I’m going to be working on a new series of vampire erotic romance novellas for release next year. I have the first two written, so I’ll edit those and then write the next two. I’m also planning Her Demonic Angel, the fifth book in my Her Angel series. It’s all go.

You’re running in the forest and something unknown is following you from afar. You think it’s a vampire !!!  Maybe it’s a werewolf ? Do you...

A. Hide in the treetops and hope that you go unseen.
B. Find the nearest stake hoping it’s just a vampire and await hiding behind the closest tree.
C. Run for your life and hope that the church is not far away.
D. Keep jogging and hope it’s the neighbours dog..
E  Hide out hoping to catch a glimpse of the stalker....
F. Await to be feasted upon, and given the time of your life..... (( waggles eyebrows )) lol..

I’d never be able to climb a tree, and if I’m feeling honest with myself, it would definitely be the last one. I’d probably slow to an easy jog and wait to see if he had fangs or fur before deciding whether to stop and let him have a nibble. Who am I kidding? I’d probably stop for both vampire or werewolf. I think I might add another choice... I’ll wait behind the nearest tree until he passes and then pounce on him and give him a nibble.

Who would you want to share an ice cream with and what flavour?

If I had a choice out of anyone and my husband wasn’t around to witness it... I don’t know. I think out of my heroes, I’d like to share ice cream with either Valentine from my Vampires Realm series, Aleksandr from Heart of Darkness or Julian from Love Immortal, but since all three are vampires who can’t eat human food, I don’t think I would be sharing much. I’d just have to eat the whole damn thing. Wouldn’t that be a shame? I guess they could participate. I could smear it on them and lick it off. Now there’s an idea.

Your favourite celebrity hotty!?
I love Hugh Jackman. He’s my allowed slice of sexiness according to my husband. He’s hot. I also love Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, and Ian Somerhalder from The Vampire Diaries.

Whom is your favourite male character in your books and why?
It’s no secret that I’m mad for Valentine from my Vampires Realm series. He was the lead hero in the Prophecy Trilogy and I fell hard for the dark, deadly and downright sexy vampire when writing him. Second in line to him is Aleksandr from Heart of Darkness. Aleksandr put up a good fight and might have knocked Valentine off the top spot in my heart, but Valentine held firm. After those two hotties, it has to be Julian from Love Immortal. Together they make my trifecta of bliss.

You love to write romance - are you a true romantic at heart?

I like to think I am. My husband would probably say that I am and would mention that I ensured our wedding vows said for all eternity rather than until death us do part. I cry at romantic movies and books, bleed inside for my characters when I’m writing a new story, and believe in eternal love. I guess that makes me a true romantic.

You wake to find yourself tied gagged and helpless in a chair in a dark room. A shadow is watching you from afar and you can see his silhouette. He is tall, big and his eyes are glowing red - you can hear him breathing - what are you first thoughts?

Boy, I hope he’s a vampire and gorgeous.
After that, I’d probably panic a little... and then if he emerged from the shadows and was as hot as my vampire heroes, I’d probably start trying to lure him over with saucy smiles and come-hither looks.
Can I just say, you have a dark mind...

Some fun questions...

Describe yourself in five words

Passionate, headstrong, stubborn, determined, caring
Cakes or muffins or slice?

I do love cake. I’m very good at baking.

Tea, coffee, soda or poison of choice?

Tea. That shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone reading this. I am British :)

Night or day?
Night. I’m not being cliché. I have always been a bit of a night owl. I like the peace that you can feel even when inside. Everything feels so still.

First thing that comes to mind when I say VAMPIRE?

Bite me! Please?

First thing that comes to mind when I say WEREWOLF?

Can I stroke you?
Walk, or fly?

Walk, unless there’s an angel involved. I could be convinced to go for a flight in his arms.

Thongs, sandals or joggers?

I had to go look the last one up. Lol. I knew what thongs and sandals were to Australians. Joggers were new to me. Pretty much joggers. I like skate shoes and trainers. They’re so comfortable and I tend to walk fast so need shoes that stay on and don’t hurt my feet.

Chocolate - white, dark or original?
 Dark all the way!

Favourite season of the year?
Autumn. The leaves turn beautiful colours, the air is fresh and crisp, and the sunsets and sunrises are magical.

Socks or slippers?
 Socks.
Last but not least, your favourite movie or TV series?

Favourite movie is probably The Lost Boys but I adore so many movies. I’m a real movie enthusiast. Favourite TV series at the moment is The Vampire Diaries and I really like True Blood too.

Melody - Purple is my favourite colour, and I would love to spend a few years living in Japan and then some time in Australia, and perhaps Italy and Spain too would be amazing.

Annie Marie - I like that I can take these paranormal species and really make them mine, twisting them here and there, and giving the reader something a little different to other authors out there. It's a fantastic playground. I love them dark though.
